Climate change - Tasmanian resources

The Tasmanian Climate Change Office website has information on some activities currently being undertaken within the State. Funding for the Tasmanian Climate Change Office has more than doubled from $1 million a year to $2.43 million in 2008-09. The funding will enable the office to oversee the reduction of the Government's greenhouse gas emissions, accelerate the climate change strategy for the State, and support the new Tasmanian Climate Action Council.

A new $500,000 community grants program will help empower Tasmanians to take action in their own communities to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the environmental changes that climate change will bring. Criteria for the program is currently being developed and it will be up and running before the end of the year.

A new climate change Partnerships Program will enable the Government to work more closely with organisations such as the University of Tasmania and with Local Government to ensure that the State is prepared for the challenge of climate change.
