Drought financial assistance

The Australian Government on their website states that, "from 3 July 2007, all producers in the exceptional circumstances application areas of North East and Flinders Island and Central Midlands areas can apply for up to six months of income support."

Producers need to contact Centrelink or call the
Australian Government Drought Assistance Hotline on 13 23 16 to check their eligibility and for further information.

Some other key programs are:

    Australian Tourism Development Program - Round 5 (opens 1 June 07 and closes 13 July 07) is only open to applicants wishing to undertake a project in exceptional circumstances declared areas.

Drought assistance for farmers (Centrelink)

Centrelink is helping people in communities that have been affected by the drought in a number of ways. This assistance includes help for farmers, small business, the wider community and farm hands. Help available for farmers includes; Exceptional Circumstances Relief Payment for Farmers; Exceptional Circumstances Professional Advice and Planning Grant; Interim Income Support for Farmers; Drought Bus; Personal Counselling Service; Drought Force.

Drought information (Vic Govt)

The Victorian Government has formed the Drought Taskforce and made available a number of resources to help the community get through this drought. This website contains a variety of information from DPI and other agencies.

Exceptional circumstances relief (Centrelink)

The Exceptional Circumstances Relief Payment (ECRP) is delivered by Centrelink on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. The payment provides assistance to farmers living in 'exceptional circumstances' affected areas who are having difficulty meeting family and personal living expenses.

Flinders Island road transport assistance

The Tasmanian Government through the Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Hon David Llewellyn, is providing up to $5,000 monetary assistance to eligible Flinders Island farmers. This will aid in providing cost equity with mainland Tasmanian counterparts for transport to assist in drought management.

Help for drought affected areas (ATO)

The Tax Office can help taxpayers affected by the drought by giving them more time to lodge and pay their income tax and activity statements.

New drought support initiatives (Vic)

A number of new drought initiatives including farming information, financial assistance, community support, counselling and personal support.

Tasmanian drought assistance - Midlands (Aust Govt)

From 3 July 2007, all producers in the Central Midlands area of Tasmania can apply for up to six months of income support.

Tasmanian drought assistance - Northeast (Aust Govt)

From 3 July 2007, all producers in the North East and Flinders Island area can apply for up to six months of income support.
