Water development proposals

Water has a central role in the State’s economic development, particularly given the importance of primary industries. Future water developments and opportunities will focus on sustainable resource management and wastewater reuse.

SMART water development

The SMART Farming Water Initiative provides $3.1 million over the next four years (2006/7 - 2009/10) for a multi-focussed approach to shore up existing water supplies for irrigated agriculture and to achieve reliable and sustainable additional irrigation supplies.

Meander dam

The dam will be 47 metres from bed of the river to top of crest with an effective storage capacity of 41 000 ML.

Midlands Water Scheme Proposal

The Tasmanian Irrigation Development Board has released details for the delivery of irrigation water into the Midlands region of Tasmania, known as the Midlands Water Scheme.

Rivers & Water Supply Commission

The Rivers and Water Supply Commission (RWSC) is a Government Business Enterprise responsible for the State Government owned water schemes and is responsible for the construction and management of the Meander Dam Project.

SMART Farming Water Initiative

The SMART Farming Farm Water Development Plan Program (FWDPP) provides funding to subsidise the costs of the preparation of Farm Water Development Plans to identify opportunities and options to ensure effective use of existing water supplies and to access additional irrigation water to enhance farm productivity and production.
