Final Report of NRM Review

Tasmanian Government Media Release - 24 June 2008

Tasmania will retain and strengthen its Natural Resource Management (NRM) framework, which ensures a high degree of community involvement in addressing environmental issues. The Final Report and Recommendations from the Review of the Tasmanian NRM Framework and Legislation were released today by the Minister for Primary Industries and Water, David Llewellyn.

The report follows an examination of the effectiveness of the Tasmanian framework after five years of operation. There was widespread consultation on the review and all 18 recommendations of the Report have been accepted.

The Regional NRM committees represent local communities, business and other regional stakeholders. The review involved extensive consultation with key stakeholders and the public in late 2007. The review showed that one of the strengths of the Tasmanian framework is that it is a non-regulatory model.

A copy of the Final Report and Recommendations can be found on the Department of Primary Industries and Water website at www.dpiw.tas.gov.au .
