State of public health report 2008

Tasmanian Government Media Release - 29 May 2008

The health of Tasmanians continues to improve and on a number of key measures is the best it has ever been, a new report by the Director of Public Health has found.

The report shows Tasmanians generally have poorer health than, and don't live as long as, most other Australians.  We face difficult times ahead, given our ageing population, relatively high levels of chronic conditions such as diabetes and our lower socio-economic status than most other Australians.  Without a strong commitment to address these population health risk factors, it is likely that our life expectancy gap will widen rather than improve over time.
