Benchmarking the Smart Way
The Tasmanian Governments’ SMART Farming initiative has provided monies over the next few years to encourage farmers in various agricultural industries to benchmark their farming business.
For the dairy industry it is proposed to implement this through changes to the long established Impact/ANZ Dairy Business of the Year Award and option of personal benchmarking program using the same analysis program but without the more public nature of the Award
A fee of $100 to each dairy farmer who enters their business or, by agreement with the entrant for a second party (e.g. farm consultants, accountants) who enter their clients’ businesses in either the Award or personal benchmarking program (same analysis and reports but without the prizes and publicity). Options to the value of $200 will be available to provide feedback on individual farm business performance for entrants.
Participants who did not enter the Award or benchmarking program last year will be eligible for a $500 random draw.
Farmers who do not wish to compete for the award prizes can still benchmark their farm business performance and receive the same reports and feedback as other participants.

Completion and return is required by Dec 31, 2007 but the earliest receipt would be appreciated and allow early analysis and feedback reports for participants.
