The Department of Primary Industries and Water, in partnership with DairyTas, announced the award at the DairyTas Field Day on February 7th as part of its Industry Partnership Scholarship program. The DairyTas scholarship for $1,000 provides Sandra with a unique opportunity to develop a project in line with the DairyTas Strategic Plan.
Sandra will also attend the Australian Dairy Conference later this month in Launceston, and will have the chance to network at other DairyTas forums and events. Sandra hopes to gain knowledge, with her scholarship project, around plant requirements and how efficient use of water directly links to farm potential
Caroline Brown, the DPIW Program Officer of the Women in Rural Industries Program, said that the scholarship is one of the few programs nationally that offer rural women the opportunity to effect change within their industry. "We are excited that DairyTas is working to achieve this goal with us," Ms Brown said.
Three other scholarship announcements are soon to be held in partnership with Organics Coalition of Tasmania, Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association and Tasmanian Fishing Industry Council.
