Organic month is October

Tasmanian Government Media Release - 1 October 2009

The Minister for Primary Industries and Water, David Llewellyn, today launched October as Organic Month. A number of nationally co-ordinated events will be featured.  The month will see two major campaigns.

The first, Trust Organics, is a fortnight of national awareness featuring discussions and events around the importance of organic standards and the emerging issues on climate change.  Coordinated by Organics Federation of Australia, the events will run in every State from Friday 2 October to Sunday 18 October.

During the month, the Organic Coalition of Tasmania will host a workshop for retailers and organic producers addressing specific issues on supply and demand of certified organic products.  The OCT workshop will present and address the practical implications of the labelling and presentation requirements of the new Organic Australian Standard.

Following Trust Organics will be National Organics Week (NOW) from Friday 16 to Sunday 25 October: a celebration of the producers, retailers and input providers in the industry.  NOW is in its second year and is coordinated by Biological Farmers of Australia (BFA) and the Centre for Organic and Resource Enterprise (CORE).  NOW is 10 days of activities designed to increase awareness of the benefits of organic products and farming production systems.
