Natural Resource Management (NRM)
Tasmania's Natural Resource Management (NRM) framework seeks to manage our natural resources in a sustainable manner for the long term, achieving a balance between economic and social development and the need to protect the environment.
In Tasmania, the regional approach operates under the Tasmanian Natural Resource Management Act (2002). The Australian Government is involved through a number of national funding programs, most of which are undertaken in cooperation with the States. The largest is the Natural Heritage Trust, but others include the National Landcare Program and the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality. They support on-ground works, planning, resource assessment and capacity building.
There are a number of funding opportunities for community groups, individuals and primary industry businesses.
